Mile High Youth Corps works closely with local businesses to provide our programs and services. Corporate support is essential in several aspects of our work, including: providing employment opportunities to our graduates, sponsoring fundraising events, volunteering to enhance the quality of our programs and providing in-kind support.

Volunteer at Mile High Youth Corps

All volunteers must complete the volunteer application form.

  • GED TUTOR
    Type of Project: Individual
    Time Commitment: Volunteers accepted February-December. Volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of one, 2-hour day-time session once a week for at least four weeks. Monday-Thursday only.
    Description of Activities: Volunteers assist GED students in preparing for the exam. Tutors work one-on-one with assigned students or in small groups concentrating on the five subject areas: literature and arts, math, science, social studies and writing. Due to the renovation of our building, Community GED classes are currently postponed. Classes will resume in February 2011.
  • JOB READINESS TRAINING ADVISOR
    Type of Project: Individual
    Time Commitment: Flexible. Year-round, monthly positions available. Day-time positions only. Monday-Thursday only.
    Description of Activities: Volunteers help Corpsmembers transition into the “real world” and learn the basic skills they need to find and keep a job. Opportunities include short term commitments such as participating in mock interviews, reviewing resumes, serving on a career panel or hosting job shadows.
  • SERVICE DAY PROJECT PARTNER
    Type of Project: Group/Individual
    Time Commitment: MHYC sponsors three Saturday volunteer projects each year: National Youth Service Day (April), Colorado Cares Day (July) and Make a Difference Day (October)
    Description of Activities: Volunteers are invited to work alongside Corpsmembers on Service Day community projects. Projects include trail building, tree planting, community gardening, painting and other physical work. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to join MHYC for these one-day events.   • MHYC Board of Directors board member
    Type of Project: Individual
    Time Commitment: Board members commit to two year terms of service and make a personal financial contribution to the agency. The Board of Directors meets every other month.
    Description of Activities: MHYC'S Board of Directors provides overall governance and direction for the organization. Board members also serve on one of the standing committees: Executive, Capital Campaign, Marketing, Corporate Relations, Special Events and Finance. Board members play a critical role in MHYC's success and actively fundraise, providing valuable connections in the community and lending their expertise for strategic planning decisions.
 

2011 STATEWIDE IMPACT

Mile High Youth Corps (MHYC) improves communities and the lives of youth by putting young people to work in neighborhoods, public parks and open spaces throughout Metro Denver and the Southern Front Range. In 2011, the Corps had a significant impact throughout the state of Colorado:

JOB CREATION AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
MHYC employed, educated and trained over 250 young adults in 2011 and received an average of 10 applications for every one youth position available. Additionally, over 20 youth earned a GED and 200 Corpsmembers earned AmeriCorps education awards. Read More .
